Kevin Durant - Pindown Progressions (Off Ball Movement)

Kevin Durant, 2014 NBA MVP, 7x All Star, 50-40-90 club member, and 4x NBA scoring champion. KD has a whole host of other impressive credentials, including Rookie of the Year. He came into the league getting buckets, and he’s obviously evolved into one of the game’s great scorers. One thing he has learned to do exceptionally well is to make the right play coming off of a pin down. On the off chance that’s not a familiar term, a pin down is when a screen is set that allows a player to move from the paint to the wing. What Durant has learned to do well is to make the right play coming off of a pin down. He’s one of the best shooters in the league, so he’ll always be a threat if he’s given even a sliver of daylight, but the way he has passed the rock when the double comes, or how he skips over the top coming off a screen is great stuff.

The Thunder used a lot of actions that got KD the ball coming off a pin down, that flowed right into a tight pick and roll. This play is lethal because you have a great shooter and supreme scorer getting the ball with a chance to rise up and shoot right away, but he also has the opportunity to turn the corner, take a dribble and be right at the rim. KD is also a 7 footer, so he’s capable of getting his shot of just about anywhere, so a lot of the time, he takes a jab dribble or a step back and then it’s nothing but net. What I want people to look at comes near the end, because he has really threaded the needle in those extra small seams when defenses basically blitz that tight pick and roll.
