JYF Cribs | The Godspeed

Описание к видео JYF Cribs | The Godspeed

Join Carol, one of the ships’ crew, as she introduces the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s replica ship Godspeed.

This is the Foundation’s third replica of Godspeed, which was built in Rockport, Maine and delivered to the Foundation in early 2006. Little is known of the original Godspeed, other than that she was captained by Bartholomew Gosnold, had the cargo capacity of a volume of 40 tuns and when she sailed from Blackwall in December 1606, she was carrying 52 crew and passengers. Of the three ships that sailed, she was the middle in size compared to Susan Constant’s 120 tuns and Discovery’s 20 tun.

Bartholomew Gosnold was an English lawyer, adventurer and early promoter of the Virginia Company. In 1602 he led an expedition that surveyed the coast of northern Virginia (now Massachusetts), before becoming one of the officers of the Jamestown expedition and the captain of the Godspeed.
