"The Federal Hostel(s) At Igloolik", (a.k.a.: "Igloolik Residential School") opened on December 26th 1961 in Igloolik, on Igloolik Island, north of the Foxe Basin, in Fury and Hecla Strait, in Nunavut, Canada. The buildings that were affiliated with this hostel were the "Igloolik Boys Hostel" and the "Igloolik Girls Hostel", both, being non-denominational. They operated the residences under the supervision of the Federal Day School Principal. The buildings were finally closed on June 30th 1969. Since the Federal Hostels at Igloolik only provided accommodation, children received classroom instruction in a nearby day school. Former priest, Eric Dejaeger, who in 2015 was convicted on '24 counts' of sex crimes against Inuit children, from his time as a parish priest in Igloolik, Nunavut between 1978 and 1982, is out of prison, on parole. Dejaeger was first arrested in 2011 on immigration charges in Belgium and deported to Canada to face the sexual abuse charges that were laid in 1995. He has been convicted of 'dozens' of sexual offences in Canada, involving 'children, adults and animals', in Nunavut and Alberta. His victims in Alberta, where he was 'studying' at the Newman Theological College in Edmonton in the 1970s, were a nine-year-old Indigenous boy from Grand Cache, Alberta and an eight-year-old boy and his six-year-old sister, from Edmonton. (*Please petition to have this 'criminal' re-tried, with an unbiased jury. He does not deserve to be free.)
