Is truth an empirical given? Could we get rid of any conceptual activity and isolate some immediate facts that are simply given to us? Here, with the help of Kant, Hegel, and Sellars, I will show why in any episode of reception, i.e. observing the world, our concepts sneak in and give shape to what we actually observe. The same problem arises with any other claim for immediacy, e.g. immediacy of 'I" in Descartes philosophy.
