Sakineh had fallen ill again, and this time the pain was excruciating. Shahab, concerned about her condition, decided to go to her aid. He went to the bus operator and took the car from him so that he could go to Sakineh. Meanwhile, the neighbor, Maryam, approached him and said, “I also want to go to the city and see the doctor.”

So they set off together to the city and began treating Sakineh. After they returned from the doctor, Shahab realized that Sakineh had not improved and that she was still sitting at home, listless and weak.

To cheer Sakineh up, Shahab’s mother had prepared lunch with love and care. But Sakineh refused to eat, which caused even more concern for Shahab and his family.

Knowing how vital nutrition was to Sakineh’s recovery, Shahab told her, “If you don’t eat, I won’t eat either.” This sentence not only showed her empathy, but also protested to Sakineh that life still went on for her and that she needed to work on getting better.

At this moment, Sakineh looked at Shahab with tearful eyes and realized how important his love and support were. A new hope sprouted in her heart; perhaps together and by each other's side they could get through these difficult days.
