How much can you actually brew with a Hario V60?

Well, the V60 packaging suggests a max number of cups, but that's not too helpful. Do they mean 8oz like a measuring cup, or 6oz like a standard coffee serving?

The better question is how many grams can it hold while leaving enough room to pour your water. Then, just multiply the limit in grams by your preferred coffee:water ratio, subtract a little water that's retained in the grounds, and you've got your answer!

I put this to the test with my favorite brewing ratio, and found _very roughly_:

V60 01:

Just shy of 2 measuring cups
~3 serving cups

V60 02:

~3 measuring cups
~5 serving cups

Keep in mind that they're fundamentally the same shape. The 02 just extends farther up, but uses identical angles. You can even use 02 filters in an 01 cone.

So, if in doubt, go with the 02. The extra volume might come in handy, and won't impact smaller batches whatsoever.
