Professor Shamim Hanfi was born on 17th May 1939 in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh to a renowned advocate Mohd. Yaseen Siddiqui. Early life was spent in Sultanpur but had to move to Allahabad for study purpose where he came in contact with Firaq Sb who left a profound impression upon him. He had served as a faculty for Aligarh Muslim University before Joining Jamia Millia Islamia. He is now Professor Emeritus at the same University.
