Inside Blue John Cavern 🇬🇧| 4K| Didn't expect this in Castleton Peak District | Travel Vlog 2

This cavern was made of such sophisticated history and facts that we, as a family have not encountered before. The world famous Blue John Cavern in Castleton in the Peak District has been said to be the finest that can be seen by the general public in Western Europe. They have great facilities including their new café to enjoy a light snack before or after the tour of the cavern. The cavern takes its name from the semi-precious mineral Blue John, which is still mined in small amounts outside the tourist season and made locally into jewellery. The deposit itself is about 250 million years old. The miners who work the remaining seams are also the guides for underground public tours. This place was a blast to visit and it was a pleasure to go inside a cavern for the first time. The mineral veins of the Peak District were formed during the late Carboniferous and Early Permian times, when the limestones were at a depth of 3 kilometres (1.9 mi). The minerals were deposited in veins by layers of crystals precipitating from hot fluids coating the walls of fractures, caves, and other cavities. All really interesting.
