On November 11, 2022, the James Madison Program hosted a conference titled, "Institutional Neutrality and the Mission of the University." This conference was part of the Initiative on Freedom of Thought, Inquiry, and Expression. This second panel was titled, "Legal Implications of the Kalven Report."

The "Institutional Neutrality and the Mission of the University" conference consisted of two public panels investigating the role and impact of the landmark Kalven Report, followed by a private workshop session for the scholars in which they discussed the continuing relevance of the Kalven Report.
