The UWI/CETL Faculty Award Ceremony for Excellence in University Teaching and the Beryl Allen Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching

The UWI Faculty Award Ceremony for Excellence in University Teaching is the attempt of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus to recognise and honour faculty who have demonstrated pedagogical excellence. Each semester, the University carries out a Course Experience Review (CER). Students are encouraged to reflect on their personal learning experience during a course and report on the various ways and means by which learning was advanced. The information is collected with the course experience review instrument. In carrying out this review, the university teacher is also rated as well as the design of the course and where faculty members are clearly outstanding (in relation to pedagogy), they are named and honoured in the Faculty Award Ceremony.

The Beryl Allen Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching is named in honour of Dr Beryl Allen, first and founding Coordinator of the Centre for Excellence in University Teaching and Learning (CETL), formerly Instructional Development Unit. The award is made to the most eligible nominee or nominees who have demonstrated outstanding teaching utilising innovative strategies and techniques. Faculty must submit a digital teaching portfolio which is reviewed by external judges and the awardee named by these judges. The awardee receives a cash prize.
