You've probably already heard Yes You Are's new single HGX, as it debuted this year on Pepsi's Superbowl 51 commercial and has played worldwide, over 20,000 times since, including during broadcasts such as the Billboard Awards, the Oscars and The Bachelor finale. The song was also featured in the hit movie Bad Moms, as well as FX's Tyrant and MTV's Scream and now has a brand new remix by Todd Fink (The Faint.) Currently working on finishing their debut LP with producers Greg Collins (U2, No Doubt, KISS, Eels) and David Spreng (Bob Dylan, Alice Cooper, Lucinda Williams), Yes You Are is set to make a dramatic entrance on the national and international music scene in the very near future...
Not long after forming, some of Yes You Are's new tracks got into the hands of Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees who instantly became a big fan. So much so, that less than a week later Yes You Are was officially invited to support Neon Trees on their US summer tour. That type of dramatic impact is what Yes You Are is all about.
"We play black pop,” says Kianna Alarid, Yes You Are's intense front woman. It’s a fitting description of their sound, essentially power pop, with sing-along hooks, mainstream-friendly riffs and synth-covered dance rhythms – but there is something mysterious about their lyrics that brings you back to the songs again and again to see what new meanings can be uncovered.
Alarid cut her teeth in the critically-acclaimed indie band Tilly and the Wall, touring through the mid to late aughts with bands such as She and Him, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, Of Montreal and CSS, playing venues around the world and hitting major festivals like Coachella, Japan’s Summersonic, Iceland Airwaves, Reading, Leeds, Scotland’s T In The Park and Australia’s Splendor In The Grass as well as performing on Late Night with David Letterman and Sesame Street.
