A Walk Through Namesake and Nature: Visiting Bob Heirman Wildlife Park
About 20 years ago, I searched online for my son's name — Bob Heirman — and discovered something remarkable: a man by the same name, living in Washington State, who had a wildlife park named after him. That discovery led me to reach out and connect with the real Bob Heirman.
A decade later, while traveling through the area, we met him in person. He was warm, generous, and deeply passionate about the land he helped protect. It was a meaningful meeting that I’ll never forget.
This video captures a walk I recently took through the Bob Heirman Wildlife Park at Thomas’ Eddy, a beautiful and quiet nature preserve near Snohomish, Washington — the very place named after the man I once connected with through a simple Google search.

👤 Who Was Bob Heirman?
Bob Heirman (1934–2017) was a beloved conservationist, angler, poet, and local historian. He played a pivotal role in preserving Thomas’ Eddy, once threatened by gravel mining. His work — alongside the Tulalip Tribes and other partners — helped protect this ecosystem for generations to come.
The park was renamed in his honor, a lasting tribute to his tireless advocacy for wildlife, rivers, and public access to wild places. Meeting him in person gave me a glimpse into his deep love for this land.

📸 I hope this video gives you a sense of the beauty and spirit of the place — and the man behind its name.
