Episode 17 & 18 Summary:

In Episode 17, the Syrup Village arc reaches its climax as Luffy defeats Captain Kuro with a devastating headbutt, while Usopp saves Kaya by taking down Jango with an exploding pellet. Following the battle, the crew is gifted the Going Merry by a grateful Kaya, and they officially invite Usopp to join them as their fourth member. Episode 18 then shifts to a side adventure on the Island of Rare Animals, where the Straw Hats encounter Gaimon, a former pirate who has been stuck inside a treasure chest for 20 years. Although the "treasure" he spent decades guarding turns out to be empty, Luffy helps Gaimon find closure, and the man chooses to remain on the island as the protector of its unique hybrid animals while the crew sets sail once more.
