NOTE: I did upload these races in 2013, but I decided to upload this season with all 4 motos in one for fun.
This is round 10 of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship from Motocross 338 in Southwick, MA.
Returning contenders like 450cc rookies Jake Weimer, Christophe Pourcel, and Trey Canard, Ryan Villopoto, Josh Grant, 450cc sophomores Justin Brayton and Brett Metcalfe, 2009 champ Chad Reed, Andrew Short, Mike Alessi, Michael Byrne, Davi Millsaps, and defending champ (and 450cc sophomore) Ryan Dungey battle it out for the 2011 Lucas Oil 450cc AMA Pro Motocross Championship. After being released from Monster Kawasaki in late 2010, and all the factory slots taken for the year, Chad Reed decides to dig into his own pockets and form his own team of TwoTwo Motorsports Honda, which (after a slow beginning in Supercross) christens a spark in Reed's confidence and season for almost all of 2011. This series features a 3-rider battle between Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, and Chad Reed. The series is presented with another guest in Hurricane Irene. Ryan Dungey wins the first moto, only to suffer mechanical problems before the start of moto 2; amazingly, Dungey demonstrates the heart of a champion as he comes from having no bike at the start to finish an astonishing 7th place (3rd overall). Simultaneously, 450cc rookie Justin Barcia wins the second moto in just his 4th career 450cc moto, but the real winner is Brett Metcalfe with a 3-2 performance, which turns out to be his one and only Motocross win of his career.
Returning contenders like 250cc rookie Eli Tomac, Tyla Rattray, Ryan Morais, Kyle Cunningham, Cole Seely, current SX Lites West champ Broc Tickle, Wil Hahn, current SX Lites East champ (and 250cc sophomore) Justin Barcia, Dean Wilson, Blake Baggett, Ryan Sipes, Nico Izzi, Martin Davalos, South African transplant Gareth Swanepoel, French transplant Marvin Musquin, and others battle it out for the 2011 Lucas Oil 250cc AMA Pro Motocross Championship. This series is dominated by Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders Dean Wilson, Blake Baggett, and Tyla Rattray. After taking a month off to lower his blood sugar levels, Ryan Sipes returns to the Motocross series, only to pull out of one of the motos due to a big clod of sand getting in his throat and making him feel sick. The Pro Circuit Kawasaki moto win streak is over at 20 as MotoConcepts Yamaha's Gareth Swanepoel spoils the party with his first career 250cc moto win, becoming the only non-Kawasaki rider that season to win a moto; Gareth backs up that performance with a 5th place in moto 2 for 3rd overall -- his first career U.S. 250cc Motocross overall podium. Not to worry though -- the overall streak is still alive as Tyla Rattray comes back to win the 2nd moto and the overall with a 2-1. For the 3rd time that summer, Eleven10Mods Honda has another breakthrough moto finish from Alex Martin, as he finishes with a very impressive 3rd place in moto #2, marking the first career moto podium finish for himself, and the first podium finish for the team. Unfortunately, it's not enough for an overall podium as Alex finished 10th in moto #1 -- but it gives him a career-best 4th overall (10-3) on the day, besting his 5th overall (7-5) at his home track in Millville.
Enjoy.
