Race Recap Cortez, CO Dirt Riot
We just got back from another race in Cortez, CO. We did some work this past month and put in an entire PSC Hydro Assist steering system with a CBR pump and fast ratio box, we also added a Currie Anti Rock sway bar to the rear. These Modifications worked absolutely flawless this weekend and with a few hours of testing I found myself pushing old Rusty Mustard faster than ever before! The Trail Unlimited Class had 19, Yes 19! Cars in the entry for this race, more than double any previous race we have entered before. The majority of these cars being full tube chassis rigs, we had our work cut out for us! Raceday was hot and dry, we knew that dust would be an issue and we were starting at the back of the pack. Once the Flag dropped we ran as hard as we could passing four rigs on course and two guys who had broken down, at the creek crossing we got hung up for about a minute behind a broken rig attempting to climb out of the creek. At the start of the second lap we were tied for second place with Ryan miller on corrected time. Going into the first rock section on the course we noticed a noise and felt something loose. In the middle of the wash the entire front axle removed itself from the truck. I believe that the upper link welds broke, and allowed the axle to rotate around breaking the lower links, coilovers, driveshaft, radiator, and crank pulley. This ended our day, but not our determination to rebuild, and get back out on the track! I have to thank Ryan Miller for the help recovering my rig.
