Background: "This newsreel footage of the 1912 Wales v England International is remarkable chiefly for the rare close up action shots of the legendary Manchester City and Manchester United soccer star Billy Meredith [known as 'Old Skin' to his friends, owing to his emaciated appearance], the most Welsh capped footballer of his day. Wales lost the match 2-0 at The Racecourse, Wrexham, but the camera, stationed on the right wing obviously to accommodate close shots of Meredith, the Welsh no 7, captures the winger making several crosses. So little action footage exists of the footballer at this stage in his career that many documentaries substitute for ACTUAL footage the NFA's [The National Film Archive at the British Film Institute] images of Meredith, playing himself, in the fiction feature 'Ball of Fortune' (1926), which survives only in a one minute extract!".
