This is Not Tech Poi - A History of Artistic Movements in the Advanced Poi World

Everything you knew about Tech Poi is wrong! Tech Poi as a movement emerged from online groups in the mid-2000s to categorize poi tricks into encompassing and mathematical theories, but somewhere along the way it came to simply mean "advanced poi tricks" rather than an artistic movement with specific aims. Since the mid-2010s, another artistic movement has been dominant in the poi world that I like to call "Manipulation". Here I explain what the differences between the movements are, why the shift happened, and why it matters. Join me for a deep-dive into the world of poi, art, flow, and philosophy!
