“BLUEGRASS ICONOCLASTS” ~ The Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass Jam

Located in the Twistee Treat shopping center behind Starbuck’s at 10870 West Colonial Drive, Ocoee, Florida 34761, the Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass Jam has been a cherished institution in the area for over 28 years. It is a popular meeting place for bluegrass pickers of all levels of skill and experience to drop by on a Friday evening from 6:30 until the last man or lady is standing. Nothing is rehearsed; all the music is spontaneous, and it’s all free.

The intent is to stick with a Bluegrass format, but with a variety of talent in the Central Florida area, especially from international and cross-cultural visitors who are in the area to see the attractions, the Jam is blessed with occasional unique drop-ins, such as the three fun-loving ladies from Brazil you will see in Track 6, the basis for this week’s title. With those smiles, they fit right in with the Jam. And, besides, didn’t Bill Monroe make a guest appearance with the Monkees in 1963? One thing is certain. This is the first Ocoee Parking Lot Jam with back-up dancers, courtesy of Dr. Richard Gallo.
