Fried Chicken Company That Said No to $1 Million.

In 2019, Deborah and Jonathan Torres walked into Shark Tank with a bold pitch: $500,000 for 10% of their vegan fried chicken company, Atlas Monroe. Their meat-free fried chicken wowed the Sharks — it was crispy, juicy, and totally plant-based. Mark Cuban and guest Shark Rohan Oza were so impressed, they offered $1 million to buy the whole company.

But Deborah said no.

She believed Atlas Monroe was worth more. At first, she seemed right. Sales skyrocketed after the show. They made over $1 million in 2020 and doubled it in 2021. Their food was served in over 40 restaurants, including the major vegan chain Copper Branch. From ribs and bacon to sauces and desserts, Atlas Monroe looked unstoppable.

But by 2023, cracks started to show.

Orders didn’t arrive. Some food came spoiled. Their website went down. Their San Diego restaurant faced bad reviews. In 2024, it all came crashing down — the company filed for bankruptcy and quietly disappeared.
