The Fable exists at the nexus of a hard-boiled crime drama and a cheerful slice of life comedy, not unlike works such as SPY X FAMILY or Way of the Househusband - but without the children, as per the tagline.

While the use of the slice of life format may seem like a canny way to set the scene for the next action-packed mission for hitman Akira Sato, instead the two sides to The Fable's narrative combine to form the commentary that I discuss in this video.

Ironic, isn't it, that a show about a hitman being forced to stay his hand may actually be preaching about the value of a life well lived? Here, I make the case that The Fable is a extolling of the "everyman" and the unremarkable veneer his life takes as it supplies deeper meaning.

For Akira Sato, a peaceful life may be attainable through an... unintuitive route.
