On March 8th, 2025, at Lake Eola Park, history was made as Touched by Type 1 hosted its very first Steps to a Cure walk, bringing together the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) community for a powerful day of awareness, support, and hope.

For Elizabeth Forrest, founder of Touched by Type 1, this event was deeply personal. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 10 years old, one of the first things she and her family did was join a local walk to raise awareness and connect with others. Now, 25 years later, that journey came full circle as she led an event that united over 1,000 registered participants, 84 teams, and 500 donors.

Thanks to the overwhelming support, the original fundraising goal of $100,000 was exceeded, with an incredible $145,818 raised to support T1D research and programs.
