Saudi Arabia has once again captured global attention with an ambitious project that challenges nature itself. Through Trojena, the kingdom is developing the first outdoor winter tourism destination and ski resort in the Arabian Peninsula—an idea once thought impossible in a desert region. Trojena is part of NEOM, a futuristic mega-project valued at approximately US$500 billion, designed to drive Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation beyond oil dependency toward tourism, technology, and sustainable innovation.
Trojena is located in the Sarawat Mountains, about 50 kilometers from the Gulf of Aqaba. Situated at high altitude, the area enjoys temperatures that are on average 10°C cooler than much of the rest of Saudi Arabia. This unique geography makes it possible to offer rare winter experiences in the Middle East. The resort is planned to feature around 36 kilometers of ski slopes, using a combination of natural snowfall and advanced artificial snow technology to ensure consistent skiing conditions during winter seasons.

Trojena’s ambition extends beyond tourism. The destination has been selected as the host of the Asian Winter Games 2029, making Saudi Arabia the first West Asian country to host an international winter sports event of this scale.
