In red blood cells, G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase) is important for the formation of NADPH (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate), which helps relieve oxidative stress through the action of glutathione. Therefore, G6PD deficiency leads to red blood cell intolerance of oxidative stress and immune (DAT-negative) hemolytic anemia.
