Brian Balmages’ wife convinced him to write music for young players, since she teaches them. Up until then, he was composing music in the Grade 4-5 realm. And is everyone glad that he took her suggestion! Now everyone can enjoy his sparkling creativity! Fire in the Bow is a romp that is not nearly as hard as it sounds with its fiery rhythms and daring harmonies. There are also Bb and Eb notes to reinforce "low 1" for violins and violas, cello extensions and ½ position for basses. The piece avoids augmented seconds and focuses on simple finger patterns while exploring dynamic harmonies that create wonderful tension and release throughout. A fantastic opener or closer, it keeps everyone busy and propels the music right up to the end!
