Bingham Copper Mine Rio Tinto Kennecott Salt Lake City Utah 2023

Chris and I book a bus ride into he world's largest open pit mine. It sits just outside Salt Lake City Utah and you can see it from outer space. They've been digging here for 120 years. Strip mining was invented here. This is the most valuable mine in the world. It produces 300,000 tons of copper every year along with significant quantities of gold, silver, and molybdenum. It employs 1600 people. They are planning operations to 2040 and beyond. Our bus ride drops us off at one of two viewpoints inside the mine. I suspect that the road we came in on is at least 1000' lower than where it used to be.
