Captain Randall Shaw heads down to Shell Beach Louisiana to Redfish with Gold Spoons. Redfish on Artificial Baits is the saltwater version of Bass fish. When the water is high in shell beach the Redfish ponds are where we go!

This is the prime example of fishing in unfavorable conditions but still cracking the code of catching. The winds are going to be blowing 30-40 mph out if the east and that makes the tide really high.

This was probably the third day of high wind and by the time we headed home the road was barely passable due to the water crossing the road. We actually had to cancel our charters the day following this video.

The plan was to cross the big bay of Lake Borne in the sea Pro 248 and head back into the canals to the ponds all the way in the back.

There are two reasons for this. One the fish will ride the tide with the bait until they hit a dead end and two as the water works its way though the grass beds it is filtered of all sediment. As a result it will be crystal clear to throw artificial baits.

We are not just going to throw artificial because we can. We are throwing because the water is so high. If we were to fish popping corks point to point then we would only catch one fish here and there. When the water is high we always recommend throw a bait that you fan cast and cover a lot of ground with. The gold spoon is a great option for this due to it large flash when moving though the water. Another great option is the Redfish Magic spinner bait.
