For this activity we need iodine and a steel plate. We shall put the iodine on this steel plate and heat it on a low flame.
As you can see the iodine starts subliming. That is iodine is changing from solid to gaseous state.
Sublimation is a conversion of a substance from the solid to the gaseous state without passing through the liquid state.
Sublimation is an endothermic change where a substance vaporizes directly from the solid to the
gaseous state without passing through an intermediate liquid phase.
As you can see iodine has completely sublimated from here and part of it is deposited to the outer surface of the plate.The reverse of sublimation is called deposition, a process in which gaseous substances condense directly to solid state.
