Isthmus Peak Track | Wanaka, New Zealand

Isthmus Peak Track is located just outside Lake Hawea, a short 30min drive from Wanaka, New Zealand. It is a steep, 16km return track that passes through farmland into Matatiaho Conservation Land. While not as popular as the nearby Roys Peak, it is also not quite as steep or crowded, yet still visually stunning and with more varied terrain. After a few steep scrambles at the start of the trail you are treated to sweeping view of Lake Hawea and surrounds throughout the switchback climb. Upon reaching the first peak there is a 1.5km rolling traverse to the summit where you can view Lake Wanaka.
