The Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate for the November 11, 2023 election in Imo State, Senator Athan Achonu, has distanced the LP from claims that the collation of election results will be moved from ward collation centers to the respective Local Government Areas headquarters. Senator Athan Achonu has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to influence the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to compromise the upcoming election on November 11.

He emphasized that the Labour Party will use all legal means to resist any plans to conduct elections and collate results at any location other than the officially designated venues at the ward and local government levels. Senator Achonu also stressed the importance of both manual and electronic collation of results, and the significance of Form EC8 as a legal document to ensure compliance with the electoral process.

It's worth noting that Senator Achonu recently experienced an attack by unidentified gunmen, whom he alleges are working on behalf of the current governor, Hope Uzodinma.
