ARABICA VS ROBUSTA: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES? ☕

You've probably already heard of robusta and arabica coffee. Indeed, they are the two most widespread coffee varieties in the world. But do you really know what the differences are and the impact this has on your cup?

In this video, Callan explains the differences between Arabica and Robusta coffee in detail.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ARABICA COFFEE
Arabica is the most widespread and widely consumed coffee species in the world. It alone accounts for 75% of world production. It can be consumed in a variety of ways: as an espresso, a filter coffee, a piston coffee maker, a slow coffee, etc.

The Arabica species itself has many varieties:
Mocha, which is undoubtedly the best known
Bourbon, which can be found today in several forms: red, yellow, orange or pink bourbon
Typica, which is probably the 3ᵉ most famous Arabica variety.
Note that many other varieties exist, making this coffee rich in subtleties.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ROBUSTA COFFEE
Robusta is the 2ᵉ best-known coffee species in the world. However, it only accounts for 25% of world production.

When tasted, Robusta gives coffee a stronger character, more bitter, earthy, with woody notes.

Unlike Arabica, whose history of multiple migrations has given it many mutated varieties, Robusta does not have many varieties or subtleties. It is most often blended with other coffees, so there is no particular need to distinguish between different origins.

But to be absolutely correct, we don't talk about robusta but rather about ‘coffea canephora’, which is the species from which robusta is derived.

Coffea canephora (commonly known as robusta) and arabica are the two most widely grown coffee species in the world. They differ in the way they grow, in their appearance and also in the result in the cup.
