This is part one of quick review of feed processing : here, I’ve discussed the various physical methods of feed processing like pelleting, baling, chafing, & grinding etc. and I’ve also discussed a few important aspects of bypass nutrients.
Feed processing of grains/roughage/animal feed is a frequently asked question (as a long answer type question) in animal nutrition exams thus, no student should skip this topic when studying for the exams.
Overview - feed processing methods are classified as physical, chemical, & biological methods.
Physical methods are further classified into dry & wet/moist methods.
Dry methods include wafering, pelleting, grinding, rolling, chaffing etc while
Wet methods include soaking, washing, reconstitution, steaming etc
Bypass nutrient technology is an important technique used in feeding of high yielder animals (cattle/buffalo), because rumen microbes consume good quality proteins & other nutrients provided to the animal, thus, it is a asteroid of feed & money.
So to combat this, bypass nutrient technology is utilised.
Bypass nutrients is also frequently asked in the exams as long answer type question & during viva.
