Playthrough with the Masters team. KoF '98 is a non-canonical entry in the series, meaning it has no story, and brings back characters who had been killed off. The USA sport team, last seen in KoF '94, make their return, as do Heidern, Takuma and Saisyu.

The advanced and extra systems from the previous game make their return, allowing players to pick the fighting style they want -advanced lets characters run and activate max mode among other things, whilst extra lets you charge up the super gauge and also use attack avoidance. This game introduces the advantage system, where you get more super gauge stocks if you lose rounds. In extra mode, if one of your characters is defeated, the length of the super gauge is shortened.

KoF '98 is seen as one of the best games in the series, and the best KoF game available for the Neo Geo. It's not hard to see why, as the game has a massive cast of characters (although I wish the '96 boss team had made the cut), great music and plenty of extras and secret endings. It's also the first KoF game to have a practice mode.

Rugal is once again the boss, having been absent since KoF '95. Unsurprisingly he's quite cheap, although not quite the same levels as in his previous appearances. Heidern can easily beat him just by repeatedly using his projectile attack -Rugal is really dumb against this move, he frequently gets hit by it so it’s a fairly easy win.

If that fails just use Takuma and keep throwing out haoh shoukou kens at him. Several CPU characters struggle with what to do against these, especially if you charge them up (see the fights against Athena and Mary for good examples).
