WIND is a Wood Sculpture Art.
Tree with branches that move as if they are flowing in the wind. The deep, rich color of the wild cherry wood is eye-catching. The depth and richness of the color change dramatically depending on the intensity and direction of the light.

Because it is a very hard wood, I wondered if I had chosen a piece of wood that was too large for my first project using wild cherry wood. With each carving, the callus on my palm got bigger. But I gradually came to understand how to deal with it.

Will I be able to lead it safely to the shape I have in mind? I believed in myself and moved forward. The kanji (桜) for 'cherry blossom' disappeared little by little with each carving. The right side was very close to the core, so its was especially hard. I was able to only carve it little by little. That last branch which I carved plays an important role as it leads the other branches, which seem to flow in the wind to the far right.

I feel that the wild cherry wood, which I used for the first time this time, and the zelkova wood, which I used for the first time previously, are very similar. It is hard to imagine that the trees I encounter in the forest have such colors. Both are deep, dark colors and tough. In addition, They are both hard. Both are completely different from hinoki (Japanese cypress), and like hinoki, they are wood from very attractive tree species.
