Roughly 10,000 years ago, massive glaciers from the last ice age melted rapidly, the immense volume of glacial meltwater carved deep channels through the rock, creating the smooth, polished limestone walls seen today.

The Quietness of the Canyon
Natural Sound Buffer
Once you enter the narrow part of the canyon, the towering rock walls act as excellent sound barriers. They effectively block out much of the ambient noise from the surrounding area, including the nearby highway and industrial plant that hikers pass on the initial part of the trail.

Secluded Vibes
This muffled soundscape creates a strong sense of seclusion. It allows the smaller, natural sounds like a bee buzzing, the trickle of water, or the rustle of wind, to become much more prominent, enhancing the feeling of being immersed in nature.
