Replacing Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils on a 2000 Volvo V70 (B5244S)

** IMPORTANT information is included in this description! **

This video shows how to replace the spark plugs and ignition coils on a 2000 Volvo V70 with a 5 cylinder B5244S (S=naturally aspirated) whiteblock engine.

The spark plug torque value of 30 Nm used in this video is specifically for the B5244S engine. Many Volvo whiteblock engines have a recommended spark plug torque value of 25 Nm. (See table provided below for torque values for some some additional engines.)

The procedure should be essentially the same for 4, 5 and 6 cylinder versions of whiteblock engines made by Volvo. The modular whiteblock engines are used in many different Volvo models including 850, 960, V70, S70, C70, V40, C40 and others. ** NOT ALL whiteblock engines use the same spark plug torque. ** YOU MUST verify that you are using the correct torque setting for your specific engine!

Anti-Seize paste used in video: Permatex 81343 Anti-Seize Lubricant - 1 oz Tube (133A)

* Modern spark plugs have specially coated threads so using Anti-Seize is optional. *

!!!!! Warning: A Newton Meter (Nm) is NOT the same as a Foot Pound (lb.ft). !!!!!
!!!!! Make sure to use the correct scale when setting torque values on a torque wrench !!!!!
Using a Newton Meter (Nm) value in the Foot Pound (lb.ft) scale on a torque wrench will result in higher that expected torque which and can cause part failure and damage.

!!!!! Over tightening any spark plug can easily strip threads on cylinder head causing an expensive problem to fix.
