The body scan is a key component of many mindfulness based programs. It has been shown to be helpful with treating depression, anxiety and chronic pain. Most programs recommend doing a body scan daily for at least two weeks and then shuffle it into your regular weekly practice when you find it is needed. The goal is simply become aware of how you are feeling in the present moment with non-judgemental awareness. One should not expect it to be easy or even improve over time, rather one can learn to be aware of how they feel from day to day while practicing the body scan.
