Some stills and video I shot on a special run of the Galloping Goose Historical Society of Dolores, Galloping Goose No. 5. Some beautiful fall colors were out for the occasion. Ride along inside and watch from outside during the several runbys.

RGS No. 5 was first built in 1933 using a 1927 Pierce Arrow Series 36 limousine and its six-cylinder engine. It went through modifications over the years, probably the most significant being remotored with a GMC 361 six-cylinder in 1946 and having a Wayne bus body replace the Pierce Arrow cab. IT still retained the Pierce Arrow hood. The Dolores Colorado Rotary Club purchased RGS No. 5 in 1953 during the scrapping of the RGS railroad. In 1987 the GGHS was created to restore it. The RGS No. 5 was restored in 1998 to running condition after sitting in a park for 45 years. The GGHS also built a replica RGS depot in Dolores, where No. 5 sits proudly in front when not being run on special excursions -- like the one in this video commemorating the 20 Year Anniversary of its restoration.

I HIGHLY recommend riding this very unique piece of railroad equipment, which not only allows you to relive the final days of RGS operations, but is also actually a SUPERIOR WAY TO SEE THE RAILROAD. Views from the front (the bus body) and the back (the box) can't be beat!!! The ride is a lot smoother than I anticipated and very comfortable. Typical for these excursions, many extra photo stops are made along the way, providing more rare opportunities to see, experience and photograph otherwise haard to access areas.
