Today, we remember the 61st anniversary of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. Events like this, along with the courage of the Little Rock Nine, inspired Paul McCartney to write the timeless song, *Blackbird*.

McCartney shared that the song was written with young Black women of the civil rights movement in mind. 'In England, a bird is a girl, so I was thinking of a Black girl going through this; now is your time to arise; set yourself free; take these broken wings,' he explained.
