Описание к видео MC5 THEN vs NOW - "Kick Out the Jams" (1969) transformation

MC5 (Motor City Five) was a pioneering American rock band formed in 1964 in Detroit, Michigan. Known for their high-energy performances and politically charged lyrics, MC5 is widely considered one of the most influential proto-punk bands, laying the groundwork for the rise of punk rock in the 1970s. Their music blended elements of garage rock, hard rock, psychedelic rock, and proto-punk, influencing generations of bands that followed.

Formation and Early Years (1964-1968)
The band was originally formed by Wayne Kramer (guitar), Fred "Sonic" Smith (guitar), Rob Tyner (vocals), Michael Davis (bass), and Dennis Thompson (drums). Initially, they were known as the Bakers and later changed their name to MC5. They quickly gained a reputation for their raw, powerful sound and rebellious attitude, which resonated with the youth counterculture of the time.

The band's early influences included the Detroit music scene, particularly artists like Iggy Pop and The Stooges, as well as the energetic sounds of The Who and The Rolling Stones. They also became associated with the radical political movements of the 1960s, particularly the White Panther Party, a political organization that supported the Black Panther Party. Their political activism became a key part of their identity.

Breakthrough and Success (1968-1970)
In 1968, MC5 signed to Elephant Records and released their debut album, Kick Out the Jams (1969). The album became an instant classic, thanks to its raw energy and revolutionary sound. The title track, "Kick Out the Jams," became their anthem, known for its rebellious lyric, "Kick out the jams, motherf***er!" The album was a defining moment in rock history, influencing both the punk rock movement and later heavy metal bands.

Despite their critical acclaim, MC5's music was not always commercially successful, and the band’s radical political stance and wild performances led to friction with both the mainstream music industry and the establishment.

Decline and Breakup (1970-1972)
After the success of Kick Out the Jams, the band released their second album, Back in the USA (1970), which featured a more refined, straight-ahead rock sound. While it did not have the same raw impact as their debut, it still garnered attention for its energetic tracks and political lyrics. However, internal tensions began to emerge, particularly with Rob Tyner's increasingly strained relationship with the rest of the band. MC5’s reputation for wild performances and anti-establishment views continued to alienate mainstream audiences and radio.

By the time they released their third album, High Time (1971), the band was facing financial difficulties and internal strife. The group began to fragment, with members becoming involved in drugs and personal conflicts. MC5 ultimately disbanded in 1972, marking the end of their first era.

Legacy and Influence
Despite their relatively short career, MC5’s impact on music is immense. Their aggressive and energetic sound, political lyrics, and rebellious attitude paved the way for the punk rock movement, inspiring bands like The Stooges, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, and The Clash. The band’s DIY ethos, combined with their loud and raucous performances, created the template for the punk scene of the 1970s.

The band reunited in the mid-1990s with a reformed lineup that featured Wayne Kramer and Dennis Thompson. However, their legacy remained largely based on their groundbreaking work in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Band: Fred "Sonic" Smith, Dennis Thompson, Michael Davis , Rob Tyner , Wayne Kramer ,
MC5’s most famous tracks include "Kick Out the Jams," "Ramblin’ Rose," "Looking at You," and "Shakin' Street." These songs remain influential in both rock and punk circles. MC5 was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame and continues to be celebrated for their contribution to music history.
