Hi, my name is Melissa, and I am a previous and current caregiver. I was a previous caregiver to both of my parents, starting in 2004 to 2012, and then I became a legal guardian for my 88-year-old cousin, who is currently in a nursing home.

Some of the biggest challenges I have stem from the fact that I live 350 miles away. I dealt with this when caring for my parents and now with my cousin, who's in a nursing home. It's difficult because I had to quit my job or leave my career in order to provide the best care for them.

As a past and current caregiver, one of the most rewarding parts is the great memories I have from taking care of my parents. I have no regrets at all in taking care of them.

The best advice I can give is to network with other family caregivers who are in your situation because that is the best support you're going to get.
