Описание к видео Diabetes in the Bedroom | Dr. Kate Balestrieri & Janis Roszler discuss sex and diabetes

Dr. Kate Balestrieri sits down with Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Dietitian, Janis Roszler, to discuss the unique ways diabetes affects one’s love life, relationships, and intimacy. If you or someone you love lives with diabetes, you likely know the impacts it has on myriad aspects of one’s life.

In this video, Janis discusses how she found herself working with the diabetic population and her journey exploring the unique problems they were experiencing in the bedroom as well as how their diagnosis impacted their relationships. Dr. Kate and Janis also unpack some of the ways that life gets in the way of couples showing up authentically when it comes to intimacy, whether it be work, financial issues, medical problems, and other life stressors.

Living with diabetes does not make one helpless! Dr. Kate and Janis get into ways in which couples experience difficulties working through the various ways that diabetes impacts individuals mentally, hindering them from being present with their partner sexually. Patients often notice improvements in their sexual lives when they make their health a priority. This can look like exercising within one’s means, eating healthy, tending to one’s mental health and self-care, as well as any other symptoms management prescribed by one’s medical professional. Whether you have a medical condition or not, it’s crucial to take care of yourself in order to be your best self within your own life and your relationship.

What is often so powerful for those living with diabetes is to feel in control again. For many, their diagnosis sometimes feels like a symbol of disempowerment, but there are many actions that can be taken to empower oneself. One may not be able to exert much power over their diagnosis, but they can take control of how to live their best life.

It’s important to remember that like many things in life, finding the best solutions for your own medical needs may be a trial and error process. In this video, Janis provides several solutions based on her research and expertise in the field, as well as anecdotal modalities that have worked for individuals and couples that she’d worked with.

Diabetes doesn’t have to dictate your time in the bedroom. Your diagnosis doesn’t have to hold you back from intimacy. If you struggle with balancing your diagnosis and intimacy, it may be beneficial to work with a therapist or mental health professional that works with diabetic populations. Additionally, Janis is the author of various books around the subject of sex and diabetes. Her books on the subject of sex and diabetes can be helpful for anyone wanting to feel more empowered when it comes to intimacy.
