Sindhudurg Fort | सिंधुदुर्ग किल्ला

Sindhudurg Fort, situated on a small island in the Arabian Sea, is a magnificent 17th-century fortification off the coast of Malvan in Maharashtra, India.

History:

The fort was built by the great Maratha warrior, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in 1664-67 AD to serve as a naval base and protect the coastline from foreign invaders.

The fort is spread over 48 acres, with walls stretching up to 30 feet high and 12 feet thick. The fortification is constructed using locally available laterite stones, which are rich in iron and magnesium. The fort has a unique shape, with the walls forming a rough triangle.
