Sindhudurg Fort, situated on a small island in the Arabian Sea, is a magnificent 17th-century fortification off the coast of Malvan in Maharashtra, India.

The fort was built by the great Maratha warrior, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in 1664-67 AD to serve as a naval base and protect the coastline from foreign invaders.

The fort is spread over 48 acres, with walls stretching up to 30 feet high and 12 feet thick. The fortification is constructed using locally available laterite stones, which are rich in iron and magnesium. The fort has a unique shape, with the walls forming a rough triangle.

1. Main Entrance: The entrance is a massive, intricately carved gate that faces the east.

Sindhudurg Fort is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over India and abroad. The fort can be reached by ferry from the Malvan jetty, The best time to visit the fort is during the winter months (October to February) when the weather is pleasant.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has taken steps to conserve and restore the fort.
