Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways

In this video we have the annual visit to our friends at The North Yorkshire Moors Railway during their annual Steam Gala.

The guest locos for this year's gala were The Epping & Ongar Railway's GWR Hall 4953 Pitchford Hall which he was making his 1st visit to the railway & a new loco for us to see in action & Southern Locomotives LTD's West Country Bulleid Pacific 34028 Eddystone normally based on The Swanage Railway who was making a return to the railway for the best part of 17 years.

The Great Western Railway Society's Castle 4079 Pendennis Castle was booked down to visit as part of his 100th Birthday Tour however he was withdrawn by the society due to issues with the loco which is how 4953 Pitchford Hall stepped in to take Dennis's place.

There was a 3rd loco arrival which was a homecoming for the loco Peter Best's World War 2 veteran S160 2-8-0 2253 Omaha who was returning to the railway after 5 years away.

2253 Omaha was very significant as this was to be the last gala appearance as a coal powered loco before being converted to oil burning during the winter of 2024 & 2025.

The home fleet supported the visitors in the black 5 pair The NYMR tribal chief 5428 Eric Treacy & Peter Best's 44806, NELPG's P3 2392, Schools Class 926 Repton who was making a return to gala action after a year out, Lambton Tank 29 Peggy, 9F 92134 which ran in disguise as 92079 during the weekend replicating of the original loco that worked as a banker on the famous Lickey Incline when the original 92079 replaced the famous 0-10-0 Big Bertha & Standard 4 tank 80136.

Thursday & Sunday not much was done due to a comination of poor weather & heavy disruption & a sour end to the gala.

The Friday & Saturday of the gala weekend was the best days with brilliant sunshine especially on the Saturday morning.

The highlight on board was on the Friday night behind 34028 Eddystone in the last hour of daylight performing magnifiencetly with 6 coaches in tow including 3 carriages that were brought in on hire with thanks from The Scottish Railway Preservation Society.

Doing bang on 25mph all the way on the 1 in 49 gradient from the tunnel mouth of the sheds to Goathland station in 10 minutes.
