David is a life-long birdwatcher and naturalist with a Master’s degree on the Houbara Bustard, which he studied in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. His career has been varied, and includes time working in both the Research and Conservation Management sections of the RSPB; as an environmental advisor in Defra focussing on wetland management and wetland habitat creation, and as both an employee and consultant to the Environment Agency primarily on creation of intertidal habitats. For some years now he has had his own company providing ecological advice, specialising in the assessment of the effects of high profile projects, particularly for internationally designated sites. Projects include water level management at the Ouse Washes in Cambridgeshire and coastal habitats in Suffolk.
In addition to his main career, he has led birding and wildlife tours in various parts of Europe, but specialising in Fuerteventura. He is co-author of the Prion Guide to Birdwatching in the Canary Islands and has written a self-published book ‘A Walk Through Fuerteventura’.

He and his wife have had a timeshare on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall since 2000, and moved there in 2017. He divides his time between consultancy work, tending their Cornish garden, and indulging in his passion for birdwatching on the Lizard Peninsula.
