Nepal’s peacekeeping journey began in 1958 with the deployment of five observers to Lebanon.

Since then, more than 159,000 Nepali peacekeepers have served in 44 United Nations Peacekeeping missions across the world — from Africa to the Middle East — as soldiers, engineers, medics, and Special Forces making Nepal the world’s largest and most committed troop-contributing countries to United Nations Peacekeeping

The deployment of Nepal’s first full battalion to Egypt in 1974 marked a turning point, solidifying Nepal’s rise as a trusted global partner in peace.

This legacy is built on bravery and discipline — qualities that have earned Nepali peacekeepers deep respect wherever they serve.

And with pride comes sacrifice. To date, 74 Nepali peacekeepers have sacrificed their lives and 71 have been injured while serving for peace.

Their service continues to carry Nepal’s name — and spirit — to some of the world’s most challenging corners.
