Dinner Plain short walks and Mount Hotham summit hike 🏔Victoria travel vlog

We spent a weekend up in the Victorian High Country at Dinner Plain and Mount Hotham in the Alpine National Park.

We did some short walks from Dinner Plain including Carmichael Falls. This hike was a little bit of a fail as it turns out we didn't actually make it to the real waterfall. There's a smaller one along the track on the way and we assumed that was the waterfall. We followed the trail for a while after but it seemed to be heading away from the river and wasn't signed very well so we turned around. We'll have to go back another day and make it to the real waterfall.

We then hiked to Brandy Creek Mine and Murphy's Creek Falls. The walk was beautiful however there wasn't all that much to see. We found one old mine shaft that had been covered over and the rest was just piles of rock and dirt.

At JB Plain Hut we enjoyed a delicious cheese platter picnic lunch and I could have stayed there all afternoon. Such a gorgeous spot! We checked out the historic hut before heading back to our apartment.

We stayed in an Apartment called 'Shiraz' which was a great cheaper option in comparison to renting a chalet for the weekend. It had a full kitchen, dining room and lounge room and was a great location.

On day two we did another short walk from Dinner Plain called 'Room with a view' walk. It was pretty easy and took about an hour with a great lookout halfway around the circuit. It has a timber bench and looks out through a clearing over the nearby mountain ranges. Absolutely stunning.

Then on our way home we hiked up to Mount Hotham summit which was a short 800m walk from our carpark, although it is all uphill. The view from the top there is always beautiful and we were lucky enough to not be covered by clouds!
