Managing hypocalcemia at calving

Описание к видео Managing hypocalcemia at calving

Jesse Goff, D.V.M., from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, will present “Managing hypocalcemia at calving.”

A high potassium diet makes a cow’s blood pH become alkaline, slowing the tissue’s ability to respond to parathyroid hormone (PTH). This causes blood calcium to remain low, upsetting muscle contraction and immune function. Feeding an anionic diet can restore tissue sensitivity, and strategies to achieve a good anion program will be discussed.

The webinar is sponsored by Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health.
