Ademola Lookman Edged Out by Achraf Hakimi for the 2024 Lion d’Or

As anticipation builds for the 2024 CAF Awards, Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has added another accolade to his collection by winning the Lion d’Or. The Paris Saint-Germain defender claimed the prestigious award, awarded by Moroccan outlet Al-Montakhab, ahead of Ademola Lookman and other top African footballers.

Hakimi earned 162 points, outpacing Lookman, who secured 96 points, and Morocco’s Sofiane Rahimi, who came third with 90 points.

Despite narrowly missing out on the Lion d’Or, Ademola Lookman remains the frontrunner for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award. The Super Eagles forward had a historic season, including a record-breaking hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final and helping the club secure their first trophy in 61 years.

The CAF Awards will take place next week, where Africa’s finest will be celebrated, and Lookman could potentially cap off his remarkable year with the ultimate individual recognition.
