In this video you can see the throwing, trimming, glazing, and firing of a pair of gaiwans.

These are my take on one of the most classic ceramic forms, and while these diverge pretty significantly from the standard shape, I do quite like how they came out.

These consist of three components; the main body, the lid, and the base. All are thrown from my standard porcelain clay body, which in this case has ilmenite wedged into it. During the trimming stage, I add a black porcelain slip to carved ridges, which is trimmed away to leave a smooth surface. After the glaze firing, each component is wet sanded to ensure the non-glazed sections are smooth.

Compared to forms I make more regularly, these take quite a long time to finish, since the components needs to fit together perfectly.

I'd like to make some different colored versions of these in the future, let me know if you'd recommend anything!
