In this video, I taste test seven apples which are ripe in early to mid August. I have tasted many of these before, but it was very revealing to compare them directly.

The apples were American Summer pearmain, Gravenstein, northfield beauty, sunrise, Kerry pippin, williams' pride, and Chestnut crab.
Most summer apples, especially older heirloom ones, are not very good eating. They tend to be acidic and thin tasting and the best for making sauce and pies and other cooking uses. Apples which I tasted earlier in the season like July red, summer rose, And early harvest, are hardly worth eating. I have collected many early apples, trying to get as many as possible which seem to have had exceptional reputations. Some of those are turning out to be worthwhile at the very best of them Will be grafted onto one full sized Frankentree, frankentree dedicated entirely to high-quality early apples whichripen in July and August. The taste test winners of this comparison are already crafted onto that tree and centennial and trailman, the July crabs which I reviewed in an earlier video, we'll be joining them. Just today I discovered a right mother Apple branch which I had passed by. The one I ate was excellent would offer the winners of this taste test some competition for sure. I have other apples which ripen in this season, but did not have samples this year, so they will have to wait till next year. The most promising among those are probably Irish peach, St. Edmund pippin, and golden nugget. I will be taste testing he's in coming years among others, As well as many later apples.
